DEVON
HANSEN - SPEAKER, AUTHOR, CONSULTANT
It
is rare to find an artist who not only paints from the heart,
but speaks from that inner place as well. But, Devon Hansen
is rare, indeed. As a highly sought-after motivational speaker
and a celebrated author, Devon has inspired thousands of people
with her heartfelt, informative, yet humorous messages on
serious topics including anger, anger management, and conflict
change resolution. All of her speeches highlight her own heroic
journey from a homeless woman to a nationally recognized champion
of justice.
In
1983, while still living in low-income housing and fighting
to regain custody of her children, Devon started her own
consulting business. In one year, that business went national.
Today, she has been a keynote presenter and speaker in every
state in the United States but three.
Devon
has been hired by such Fortune 500 companies as AT&T,
GTE, Bank One, Rockwell International, Nationwide Insurance,
& Texas Instruments, as well as non-profits associations
and conferences including YMCA Women's Resource Center,
Women's Survivors of Childhood Abuse, National Educators
of the Homeless, and the American Domestic Violence Association.
She also utilizes experiences from her life when consulting
with therapists, police, social workers, healthcare, and
government officials about anger and conflict management.
Nearest
to Devon's heart is when she speaks to children, sending
them messages of love, self-esteem, and pride and reminding
them that it's okay to be different. At these events kids
listen to Devon's own childhood story and observe as she
draws Heartpeople® on stage, often making mistakes as
she colors, then drawing their own versions of Heartpeople®.
Kids resonate with "the truth" they hear from
Devon's inspiring words, and they embrace the joy when it's
their turn to shift negatives into positives. They adore
Devon and clamor for her autograph as if she was a rock
star when her sessions are over. Although her gatherings
are often intimate, Devon has spoken to as many as 5,000
children including at an event with NFL Hall of Fame star,
Allan Page.
In
1995, Devon was invited to speak and work with the survivors
of the Oklahoma Bombing, as well as families who had lost
loved ones and the community at large. A book she had penned,
Angry? Do You Mind if I Scream? first published by Health
Communications Inc., was the most requested resource and
healing guide by these survivors. Devon was also a featured
speaker for Secretaries of State from around the world at
an international event commemorating September 11th in 2002.
In
addition, Devon has been profiled in national and international
publications including United Kingdom's Career and Counselor,
US Journal, Changes, Speak Out, The Encourager, and Mentoring
magazines and has appeared on television and radio shows around
the country.
